This form contains information on education expenses that may qualify the student – or the student`s parents – for the tax deduction of tuition fees or education-related tax credits. Enter the student`s TIN as provided on the W-9S form, the student/borrower`s registration number and certification or any other form. If you have requested the student`s TIN in writing (W-9S form or other form) for the current year, check the checkbox. Also activate the box if you received the student`s TIN by written application (W-9S form or other form) the previous year, or if you received the student`s TIN from his or her request for assistance or in any other form in the previous year and if, in both cases, you have no reason to believe that the TIN previously received is false. Activate the checkbox if the institution files Form 1098-T with nothing on the field for the student`s TIN, as the institution does not have a registration of a TIN, but only if you have applied for TIN on December 31 of the year for which you submit Form 1098-T.
