THE LAC will continue to lend only to other Canadian libraries located outside the National Capital region to support researchers when the requested material is not available anywhere other than in the LAC fonds. The mechanisms for granting these loans changed with the replacement of AMICUS by Aurora. For more information, visit our website For loans to other institutions. Another change appears in LAC records: collection codes currently used in AMICUS to identify parts of the LAC collection, such as Theses, Reference, and Rare Books, are visible in the MARC 084 field, which can be searched in OCLC. All of these codes have been migrated to the master datasets in WorldCat, but when LAC catalogers create records in WMS, only a few collection codes are added, as OCLC offers other ways to identify many of these materials. For more information, see Aurora to Search for Sub-Collections. Small libraries that are not already covered by provincial or territorial holdings for cataloguing/reporting of copy stocks and/or ILL services can request assistance from LAC if this is the case: Open an email support form within the customer to contact your OCLC regional service provider, OCLC Customer Service or one or more other sources of support you provide: phone numbers and other details at: You can contact your OCLC regional service provider on the OCLC website at www.oclc.org/contacts/regional/.
Founded more than 20 years ago, AMICUS is technologically obsolete. Maintenance costs continued to rise and it was clear that it was no longer sufficiently meeting its purpose. Neither AMICUS nor the National Union Catalogue had followed new web- and mobile-friendly features, nor offered user adaptation opportunities or links to social networks. Following extensive analysis and consultation with major interest groups within the Canadian library community, LAC concluded that it would be less costly to acquire these new services than to set up and maintain an internal system. The Van Pelt and Opie Library will lend, through its remote loan, copies of theses, master`s degrees and master`s reports from Michigan University of Technology, as permitted by U.S. copyright or any publication agreement between the author and Michigan Technological University. LAC is now receiving applications for its Loans to Other Institutions program with OCLC`s WorldShare Remote Loan. For institutions that do not subscribe to OCLC services, a form is available on the LOI de LAC website to submit your requests. Individuals should contact the remote loan of their local public or scientific library to request materials from our libraries. We are happy to work with a person`s library to facilitate their request. The ability to view marc recordings at Aurora is only available to LAC employees.
Libraries must have a subscription to OCLC cataloguing services to access the MARC view. Please contact OCLC for more information. Our theses and master`s theses can be purchased at a lower price in ProQuest`s Express thesis….
